Agricultural Commission Approves $950 for Open Farm Day Prep

Southwick Agricultural Commission commits $950 in donated funds to August's Open Farm Day. Volunteer coordinator Inga Hotelling told the board she had raised $1,100 in business donations, with another $600 to $700 expected from Beacon Bank and other sponsors. Members voted 5-0 to spend up to $150 on "check-in here" signage from vendor Southwoods and 5-0 to allocate up to $800 for advertising, both drawn from the commission's gift account rather than town tax dollars.
Hotelling noted advertising spending fell from $1,229 in 2023 to $637 last year while attendance held near 1,533 guests, "you might want to think about just doing what we did last year," she told the board. The event has grown to 11 participating farms, and the commission flagged continued afternoon volunteer shortages at Blossoming Acres and Firefly Fields ahead of an August 6 orientation. Two prospective new commissioners remain unappointed by the Select Board.
