Lake committee adopts algae bloom notification protocol

SOUTHWICK — The Southwick Lake Management Committee reviewed water quality at Lake Congamond and adopted algae bloom response procedures. Vice-Chair Eric Mueller reported water clarity declined in 2025 but dissolved oxygen levels remained stable, supporting continued invasive Hydrilla treatment efforts. The committee finalized a notification protocol recommended by the Select Board that routes algae bloom reports through a task force including the Conservation Commission, Board of Health, Select Board, and Harbor Master, with results posted on the town website.
The committee also addressed Snowdeo event permits after the Office of Fishing and Boating Access denied use of state boat ramps based on 320 CMR regulations; sponsors rerouted to Congamond Marina, and future dates will see public ramp closures.
