SOUTHWICK — Open Space panel discusses three properties' maintenance needs. Southwick's Open Space Land Management Committee met August 11 to address management concerns at Woodland Ridge, North Pond Conservation Area, and Sofinowski Preserve. Members unanimously re-elected Conner Fleury as chair, Phil Price as vice chair, and Martha Kane as secretary.
Substantive discussions focused on trail maintenance, state wildlife agency concerns about North Pond erosion control, and multiple Sofinowski issues including fallen trees, boundary signage, bear awareness, and road condition. The committee received a briefing from Norm Cheever, Master Plan Implementation Committee chair, on four lead action items assigned to OSLMC, including annual meetings with landowners along a wildlife corridor spanning Southwick's borders with nearby towns.
