Other Committee · Meeting of September 21, 2026

Southwick assessors signal small land value hikes and plan an October business property audit. The Board of Assessors, with members Bill Brown, John Cain and Dean Horatik all voting 3-0 on routine minutes and motor vehicle abatements, heard Director of Assessing Randall Austin report a median sales ratio of 94.6 percent on 74 analyzed home sales, with land values possibly rising "less than five percent." Austin said the office will finish fiscal 2027 data entry by month's end and submit figures to the state by October 15, letting the Select Board schedule a November tax classification hearing instead of a December 8 vote. An October audit will inspect business personal property, though Austin stressed "we're not looking to nickel and dime everybody" given the town's $10,000 exemption, adopted in 2008.

The board closed by voting 3-0 to enter executive session on real estate abatements and exemptions under M.G.L. Chapter 30A, Section 21(a)(7).
