Ag Commission Approves $500 Volunteer Appreciation Event

Other Committee 2026-09-09 Part 2 · Meeting of September 9, 2026

Southwick Agricultural Commission logs record Farm Day turnout, launches three new subcommittees. Roughly 1,784 visits were recorded across participating farms August 16, with Blossoming Acres (220), Climview Stables (262) and Cowards Farm's 4-H exhibit (193) all posting their best numbers yet, while Dwight Arnold's farm dipped to 83. The commission spent a record $1,730 on advertising this year and voted 6-0 to adopt a new official logo built from a photo by commissioner Jessica Whitmore-Parker.

Members approved up to $500 for a volunteer and farmer appreciation event and $100 to thank event coordinator Inga, calling this year's advertising push "the most we've ever spent." The board also created three subcommittees — Farmland Protection and Preservation, Education and Outreach, and Events, Marketing and Social Media — capping each at two members to avoid Open Meeting Law conflicts, as it begins work on a state-assisted farmland protection plan.
