COA files for one-day wine license for ladies' night
Council on Aging · Meeting of September 14, 2026
Southwick Council on Aging weighs a cheaper Christmas party as it plans a packed fall calendar. Members voted to accept August minutes on a roll call and unanimously approved adjournment. The council filed for a one-day liquor license for an October 8 "ladies' night," rescheduled to run 5:30 to 8 p.m.
Members discussed dropping the Christmas party ticket price from $20 to "15 this year or something," citing seniors' winter heating costs, with the party again eyed for the Brass Rail. Volunteers are decorating roughly 1,500 bags for veterans ahead of a November Veterans Day breakfast, and a past Sarah Gillette grant cycle brought the center $1,700 toward gym equipment. Longtime regular George Harvey turns 99 this week; staff arranged for a Meals on Wheels driver to deliver his favorite Murphy's donuts to him during a rehab stay.
