Committee approves flat FY27 budget, $2,000 Knox box transfer

Southwick Lake Management Committee approves flat FY27 budget while flagging an unresolved pond jurisdiction dispute. The panel voted unanimously, 8-0, to accept a status-quo fiscal 2027 budget, including a $12,500 placeholder for lake restoration work and a revolving account for boat ramps and the annual hydrilla survey, plus a separate $2,000 reserve-fund transfer for Knox boxes at three buildings. Committee member Norm Cheever reported the Conservation Commission renewed its annual dock-removal waiver.
Members debated an unpermitted pond and dam near 159 Berkshire Road, with one saying, "it's just very puzzling to me that we have a problem that we see" and no one at the town claiming jurisdiction. Michelle, presenting for the CRC, said volunteers may donate labor and materials for a police department boathouse. Beaver dam removal is planned for March.
