Conservation Commission approves winter dock, erosion monitor

Southwick Conservation Commission edges toward adding a non-voting associate seat. Chair Norm and members heard from prospective volunteer Robert Garvey, a former wetlands permitting specialist now in construction management, and took an informal, unanimous straw poll in favor, though any change likely needs a Town Meeting warrant article no sooner than May 2026. The board also voted unanimously to continue a notice of intent hearing for 6 South Loomis Street pending a stormwater peer review, approved a winter dock variance at 5258 Lakemont Street, and accepted John Condon as erosion-control monitor for a Berkshire Avenue project.
State agencies have finalized a conservation restriction on Vining Hill Road's Noble Seed Subdivision. Conservation Coordinator Sabrina presented a Fiscal Year 2027 budget adding a $10,000 tree-removal line item despite a requested 5 percent cut, and floated drawing more of her hours from the town's roughly $64,000 Local Lake Permitting Program fund. "So I'm requesting an increase for land maintenance," Sabrina told the board.
