SOUTHWICK — The Southwick Lake Management Committee voted 7-0 to split a state Open Space Plan deadline tied to Congamond Lakes restoration, separating a near-term repair item from a longer-range dredging question. Member Mike DeBay moved the amendment after Norm Cheever explained a federal review no longer points toward dredging, saying "it gives us the flexibility." Members also reviewed a 2026 hydrilla assessment showing expanded growth near the north boat ramp and in Middle and South Pond, reported losing five to six navigation buoys in the past month, and discussed inviting the police chief to the August 27 meeting over nighttime boating speeds and the state's 2028 boater-license mandate. A proposed police boathouse drew a roughly $90,000 estimate from one contractor, with a cheaper $30,000 to $40,000 materials-only option floated through Westfield Technical Academy.
