Other Committee · Meeting of August 24, 2026
Southwick's Board of Assessors cleared six routine tax votes and moved into closed session over confidential abatement matters. Members Bill Brown, John Cain and Dean Horachek approved an agricultural Chapter 61A tax lien for 84 South Loomis, an amended sewer betterment commitment for 17 Bonnie View, and July motor vehicle abatements, each by unanimous roll call. Director of Assessing Randall Austin reported the town's Chapter 61 land application deadline has shifted to December 1 and briefed the board on two pending Appellate Tax Board appeals, including one tied to a solar-field parcel.
Austin said lowering the elderly exemption age from 70 to 65 is drawing new applicants, calling it "the payoff from our good deed," and he plans another senior center presentation to spread awareness. The board closed by voting 3-0 to enter executive session under state law to handle a confidential application matter.
