Select Board Deems Matzok Dog a Nuisance
Select Board · Meeting of August 31, 2026
Southwick Select Board deems a repeat-offender dog a nuisance and sends the case to Westfield District Court. Animal Control Officer Liz Bennett testified a German Shepherd and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel owned by the Matzok family of 5 Coyote Glen Road left the property again on July 23, violating an October 2025 agreement, after 13 prior citations and 16 calls since 2019; the family's $400 citation remains unpaid. Board members Doug Moglin, Russ Anderson and Joseph Didi voted 3-0 on the finding and 3-0 to appoint a new Housing Authority member.
The board also approved $83,566.15 in Chapter 90 highway funds for a crack-sealing overrun, a $7,300 engineering peer-review contract, and heard that Whip City Fiber signups are now open at whipcityfiber.com/southwick ahead of a targeted late-2027 launch. "It's invariably the fault of the owner," one board member said of the dog dispute.
