Southwick Open Space Board Weighs Dog Park Proposal on Hudson Drive

Southwick's Open Space and Recreation Board discussed a proposed dog park on Hudson Drive at its February 24 meeting, with no formal votes taken. Diane Gale appeared on behalf of the Friends of Southwick Dog Park to introduce the concept, which would be sited near the end of Southwick West Road. Members spent most of the session working through which other town bodies, including the Conservation Commission, the Planning Board, and the Parks and Recreation Department, should be drawn into the planning process.

One member noted that after reviewing action logs across town committees, the Conservation Commission appeared to carry "just about everything" on open-space matters compared to Parks and Recreation. The board also acknowledged an outstanding obligation to update the town's Open Space and Recreation Plan, a state-required document, with a member indicating she would follow up by email with both the Parks and Recreation director and a contact identified as Sabrina regarding the board's current standing in that process.
