Lake Management Committee restructures erosion management approach

Lake Management Committee · Meeting of August 13, 2026

Southwick Lake Management Committee unanimously restructures lake erosion management approach. Chair Dick Grannells and members approved a proposal to split the Master Plan's erosion action item, establishing separate responsibilities for property owners and the town regarding lake level and water quality. The committee also reviewed resident reactions to invasive species treatment at Congamond Lake; Solitude Environmental treated the lake on July 21 using Hydrilla Grant funding to address Eurasian Watermilfoil, Curly Leaf Pondweed, Hydrilla, and Brittle Naiad, with some residents appreciating the effort and others concerned about chemical use.

Congamond Lake is one of two sites selected by Massachusetts DEP to receive funding for a Watershed-Based Plan.
