Southwick Council on Aging approves level-funded budget request

Southwick Council on Aging holds the line on its fiscal 2027 budget despite membership growth. Director Lisa told the board she submitted a level-funded request after meeting one-on-one with the town's new finance official, Nicole, under a revised budget process that replaced marathon Saturday hearings before the Finance Committee and Select Board. The town report showed 45 new members joined exercise classes over the past year.
The council also received a $700 Massachusetts Cultural Council grant for music programming and a $500 donation from a local cannabis dispensary. After an incident in which staff called an ambulance for a resident with dangerously high blood pressure, the center is adding a self-service blood pressure kiosk. Members are still searching for gym-floor-safe tape or chalk to mark indoor pickleball lines.
