Southwick LEPC Votes in New Secretary, Flags June Race Weekend EMS Crunch

Other Committee · Meeting of March 11, 2026

Southwick's Local Emergency Planning Committee flagged an EMS coverage conflict for the June 7 Ironman triathlon after the Loretta Lynn Qualifier motocross event grew from a regional to an Eastern Seaboard qualifier on the same weekend, drawing an estimated 3,000 participants. Chair Richard Stepanowicz said the town's ALS unit will be committed to the motocross event, leaving the Ironman with only BLS coverage, and the committee agreed to notify Agawam of the reduced regional capacity. Stepanowicz also reported that the town's mass-notification vendor continues to have unresolved technical problems and that he is evaluating three replacement systems — GovGov, CivicPlus, and a third statewide-focused platform — with a formal pricing proposal to follow.

The committee voted unanimously to appoint member Lisa Anderson as secretary before moving into executive session to discuss collective bargaining strategy for police, fire, DPW, non-union staff, and clerks.
