Southwick Master Plan Panel Sets June Deadline for Completion Promises

Southwick's Master Plan Implementation Committee set a June 30 deadline for eight town organizations to submit completion promises or face a public red-light designation on social media. The three-member panel, Dave Spina, Diane Gale, and Norm Cheever, met February 4 at Town Hall and agreed that the Historical Commission, school system, parks and recreation, Board of Health, Cultural Council, Community Preservation Committee, Water Commission, and Climate Change committee must all submit promises by that date or be called out on the committee's Facebook and Instagram pages. Cheever, who also sits on the Community Preservation Committee, said the CPC's request to transfer housing action item 3.2 to the Housing Authority remains unresolved after state law research suggested the referral may need to go to the Select Board instead, telling the group, "I'm not ready to vote on whether that's transferred to anybody at this point." Member Josh Raymond agreed to draft a quarter-page recruitment ad for a local paper distributed to Southwick homeowners, with Cheever offering to cover the cost personally to fill the committee's two open seats.
