Assessors green-light warrant for Senior Exemption age reduction

Southwick assessors approve Senior Exemption age change for town meeting ballot. The Board of Assessors unanimously accepted meeting minutes and Motor Vehicle abatements at its April 27 meeting and directed the Select Board to place warrant language on the spring ballot to lower the Senior Exemption age requirement from 70 to 65. Board Director of Assessment Randall Austin reported the board will have cost of living adjustment information ready by July for eligible applicants.
During public comment, resident Art Mullen questioned why his beachfront property assessment increased 10 percent compared to a 3 percent average, with the board noting that increased lake sales activity supports higher waterfront valuations.
