SOUTHWICK — The Southwick Cultural Council reviewed 27 grant applications totaling $23,130, far more than the roughly $8,463 it expects to have available this cycle. A council member presenting the figures said the council's state allocation is $9,000, capping a new "council program" signage set-aside at $1,800; members chose an $800 signage budget instead. The treasurer's report showed accounts of $2,217.75 (state), $9,386.35 (local) and $2,138 (town), both accepted by unanimous voice vote, as were September's minutes.
Members also recapped a staged reading by local playwright Michael Buster McMahon that raised $219 in donations plus $45 from refreshments, and discussed a new "porch goose" fundraiser built around ten decorated lawn ornaments purchased for about $35 each. Final grant-award votes are set for November 9.
