Southwick Cultural Council advances 25th art show plans, reviews playwright proposal
SOUTHWICK — March 19, 2026 — Southwick Cultural Council prepares for its 25th annual art show and fields a theater proposal. The council met March 19 and confirmed the art show will run Saturday and Sunday, April 25 and 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a Friday evening reception from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Treasurer's report showed a free account balance of $9,702.75 following receipt of an $8,800 state grant for the 26th grant cycle, with combined balances across all three accounts totaling roughly $19,700. Local playwright Michael Buster McMahon submitted a written proposal — reviewed by members from a March 7 email — to stage 60 minutes of original radio-style plays at the Southwick community theater in October 2026 and again in February 2027, with payment terms still to be negotiated; members expressed strong support and agreed to take a formal vote at a future meeting. The council also confirmed a children's craft partnership with the Southwick Public Library, in which the library will organize a 250th-anniversary-themed craft activity and the council will fund supplies, with the work displayed at the art show.
